Investigation of macrophage phenotype in mouse tumor models using alphaviral vectors

Funding: This project of the Baltic-German University Liaison Office is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic Germany

Period: 2014

Project manager: Dr.biol.A.Zajakina

Aims of the project:

  • To investigate the ability of oncolytic alphaviruses to stimulate M1 macrophage infiltration into mouse tumors.
  • To acquire new competencies in molecular biology methods.
  • To establish new efficient and sustainable collaboration network between Latvia, Estonia and Germany.

Target group:

  • scientists and students of Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre
  • scientists and students of University of Latvia
  • scientists and students of Medical Centre of University of Manheim
  • scientists and students of Institute of Technology, University of Tartu

Main activities of the project:

  • Production of recombinant alphaviruses, vector biodistribution studies and investigation of macrophage polarization in mouse mammary tumor model.
  • Evaluation of alphavirus distribution using analysis of transgene expression (imaging)
  • Analysis of macrophage phenotype, hands-on training and knowledge transfer.

Planned public events:

  • Seminar at the University of Tartu, Estonia.
  • Seminar at the Department of Dermatology, Medical Centre of University of Manheim, Germany.
  • Result discussion on web-meeting.
