In LU Academic supply has been presented prof. Dr. habil. biol. E. Grēns book “The Death Empire. Secret Program of Biological Weapons in the USSR and later”

Unfortunately, the problem of mass destruction weapons today is very actual and little studied, and it is not known to the Latvian reader in particular. Once the most outstanding discoveries of molecular genetics in the world and purposeful manipulations of bacteria and viral genes promised a revolutionary coup in the pharmaceutical industry, medicine and agriculture, but also gave inspiration to the development of biological weapons.

Collections form Genome Database of Latvian population pass BBMRI-ERIC quality assessment survey

 

 

 

 

 

National Biobank Genome Database of Latvian population has completed Self Assessment Survey for quality evaluation developed by BBMRI-ERIC for several endocrinology-oriented sample collections and has received confirmation for the compliance of these collections with technical specifications of European Committee for Standardization CEN/TS 16835-2:2015.

Signed a memorandum of cooperation between BMC and MGI Tech Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of BGI Group

On 27 September 2018 was signed Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Science Institute - Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and the largest sequencing centre of the world BGI subsidiary Latvia MGI Tech Ltd about further cooperation in the development of a sequencing platform, research on human genetics, the implementation of science projects in biomedicine, the preparation of scientific publications, the attraction of experts and the commercialization of scientific results.

The EURAXESS Latvia network of contact points will start its activities

 

 

The State Education Development Agency (VIAA), as the representative of the EURAXESS institution in Latvia, has established a network of EURAXESS Latvia contact points and Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre also will be a one of contact points in Latvia.

Researchers from Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and University of Latvia Microbiology and Biotechnology Institute are cooperating in fulfilling the University of Latvia Foundation grant “Bacterial microcompartments as synthetic nanoreactors” financed by SIA Mikrotik.

Implementing a collaborative project

Institute of Chemical Physics at University of Latvia in collaboration with Radiopharmacy laboratory at "Kodolmedicīnas Klīnika, Ltd", Clinic of Therapeutic Radiology and Medical Physics at Riga East University hospital, Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology at University of Latvia has initiated an interdisciplinary project "Development and introduction of innovative methods in clinical practice for the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors using molecularly targeted radionuclides produced in Latvia".

Egija Zole will defend the doctoral thesis

In September 14, 2018 at 14:00 in the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, Rātsupītes Street 1, Conference hall, at the open session of the University of Latvia Biology Sector Promotion Council, Egija Zole will defend the doctoral thesis “Interrelation of mitochondrial DNA and telomere length alterations in ageing human population” to obtain a doctor degree in biology.

BMC in the conversation festival LAMPA

 

One of the BMC debates in the conversation festival LAMPA was "Man - superorganism" or stories about microbiomes. In conversation participated four microbiome experts and moderator Sandra Kropa. The discussion was attended by more than 50 listeners and several of them also actively participated in debates asking questions. The most active talk was about an interaction between the gastrointestinal microbiome and brain activity, as well as what to really do to make our every microbiome happy and we feel healthy.
